AOGPE event in April 2018
(The Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators)
I had the fantastic opportunity to present “The Illusion of Fun – Dynamic Activities to Reinforce Reading and Spelling Skills”.
Participants walked away with easy to m
ake games and activities to use during language lessons, supporting a variety of skill levels based on the Orton-Gillingham Approach to reading. Tutors learned ways to use sidewalk chalk, a Twister Board, make Super Cards as well as other fun ways to get students to practice their reading and spelling concepts. We had a great time and the conference was a huge success!
Augustine Tutors, Winston Salem, NC – Feburary 2018
(READWS Volunteers (Augustine Tutors), Winston-Salem, NC – February, 2018)
It was a treat to meet with the READWS volunteer tutors again! I really enjoyed sharing multi-sensory games and teaching activities to this group as they use Miss Letterly while working with struggling readers in the public school system. (Kids love getting to spell words on a TWISTER board!)
Many kind tutors let me know how much their students enjoy Miss Letterly stories – very gratifying! It’s always a pleasure to work with this group of dedicated volunteers.
Fall 2017 Events
International Dyslexia Association – International Conference Atlanta, Georgia – Novemeber, 2017
From California, to Canada, to New Zealand… we had the best time meeting folks at the IDA conference in Atlanta! The IDA brings together parents, teachers, tutors, administrators, speech pathologists and many other specialists who seek to better understand how to meet the needs of dyslexic students.
Miss Letterly was well received
and I was happy to sell copies to people across the United States and beyond. Hope she brings happiness and a better understanding of Orton-Gillingham language concepts as she makes her way around the world!
Mom on The Move!
Thanks to Triad Moms on Main.com for featuring me as a Mom on the Move! We live a great community where lots of moms are working to make positive change!
October 2 – 3, 2017
Thanks to a generous grant, 180 ReadWS tutors received Miss Letterly books. Summit School hosted a wonderful Lunch Bunch where I had the great opportunity to share my book and provide a few teaching ideas with this dedicated group of volunteers. Looking forward to working with them again in the spring!
